Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe

For Valentin's Day , we will analyse Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe .

The central topic of the poem is the death of a beautiful woman. The love of the narrator for this woman, in love with her since their youth,  outlived her death and was so intense that even angels were jealous. The identity of the woman is probably Poe's young woman Virginia Eliza Clemm Poe, who died young at the age of 24. The disease and death of his wife affected deeply Poe , who turned to alcohol to cope with grief, and is thought to have affected his literary writings where dying young woman appear as a frequent subject-matter as in this poem , Ligeia or The Raven
